LPC stands for Licensed Professional Counselor

I earned my graduate degree from Georgia State University in 1993 and have more than 30 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and families, in private practice. I began my career at SummitRidge Psychiatric Hospital on both adult and adolescent units, where I facilitated teen support groups and participated in family and group therapy.

In addition to my clinical work, I have presented to parents, teachers, and school counselors on adolescent mental health and self-injury. I remain actively engaged in ongoing professional education and have facilitated a peer consultation group that has met monthly for over fifteen years.

I believe people have good reasons for behaving the way they do. However, we can learn to tweak those and find better perspectives that serve us better. I have ideas to help you learn new strategies and skills to give you a chance at changes and improvements in your life.

You will like me as your counselor if you prefer a therapist who is direct, talkative, uses humor, and isn’t afraid to call you out on unhealthy behavior. I use a lot of little sayings that you will be hearing in your head after a few weeks and will remind you of things you’ve already learned. My clients tend to be able to tell that I like them, which helps them feel comfortable talking about difficult things. I will use well known proverbs and sayings to illustrate my point, but will probably butcher them. Because the squeaky wheel gets the birds in the hand with all the eggs in one basket, right?

My office is a 70s home that has been converted into office space, so it is a cozy, warm environment for therapy. You can walk up the steps to the front door and come in and wait in the reception area until I come and wave you over to my private office. I have refreshments for you while you wait, so make yourself at home.

Certifications and License

I have Georgia License #3551 and am licensed to provide counseling services to clients who reside within the state of Georgia.

I am certified in SPACE, which stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions, a program for parents of children and adolescents with anxiety developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. It is designed for therapists to work with parents on decreasing a child or teen’s anxiety symptoms and behaviors. It can also be modified to work with older children, including college-age young adults.

I also have Level 1 Team-CBT Therapist Certification from the Feeling Good Institute.
